Motorola Air-Charging Tech wirelessly charges the phone from 10 feet away

Motorola is showcasing new technology that promises to wirelessly charge a smartphone up to 10 feet in the air.

The Lenovo-owned brand showcased the technology today in a brief 30-second video. The wireless charger looks like a large Wi-Fi modem. When an applicable phone is nearby, it can automatically detect the device and start powering it, without depending on a charging cable or even a cradle. dump.

Motorola claims the system can wirelessly charge a smartphone at a distance of up to 3 meters (or 9.8 feet). The same system is also capable of charging four smartphones simultaneously.

The other notable feature is how the wireless charger can transmit power to a smartphone over a 100 degree field of view. You therefore do not need to place the device directly in front of the charger to receive juice. The device can also be placed at an angle.

Motorola developed the technology with GuRu Wireless, a company specializing in creating wireless charging technologies for consumer gadgets, gaming systems and smart home devices.

“A fundamental change from previous energy transfer methods, GuRu uses proprietary ‘Smart Lensing’ technology which enables the use of focused energy beams for highly efficient energy transfer,” says the website. the society. “Smart Lensing” identifies specific targets for power delivery rather than flooding an entire room with wireless energy. “

However, Motorola is silent on when the wireless charging system will actually arrive and how much it will cost. The vendor’s blog post on the demo simply notes that the live wireless power solution will launch in the future.

The other important question is how fast technology can charge a phone. Motorola did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
